PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a passive infrared sensor capable of reducing wrong information caused by a small animal and wrong information caused by disturbance light furthermore than hitherto. SOLUTION: Each detection zone row formed of a first twin infrared detection element and a condensing optical system, and a second twin infrared detection element and the condensing optical system is formed in a mutually unpiled state. Each detection zone in the detection zone rows formed on the front and the rear in the detection direction is formed of a mutually different infrared detection element and the condensing optical system, and each detection zone included in mutually adjacent detection zone rows is arranged not on a position in the same distance apparently when viewed at the distance from this passive infrared sensor. When remarking some detection zone, an optical path for forming the nearest detection zone in the farther distance from the passive infrared sensor than the remarked detection zone, which is a detection zone in the detection zone row adjacent to a detection zone row including the detection zone, is arranged at a height which is crossed by a detection object when the detection object moves along the detection direction and which is not crossed by a small animal.
