PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight acoustic material and method for easily and inexpensively manufacturing an acoustic material which has sound absorbing qualities and waterproof property and assures the failproof adhesion of a surface material and a base. SOLUTION: The acoustic material is manufactured by a process of obtaining an emulsion compounding liquid by mixing a catalyst of an isocyanate adhesive with an aqueous emulsion of a water repellent, a process of obtaining a nonwoven fabric impregnated with the emulsion compounding liquid by coating the nonwoven fabric with the emulsion compounding liquid, a process of obtaining a sheet of a porous object impregnated with the isocyanate adhesive not containing the catalyst by coating the sheet of the porous object with the catalyst not containing isocyanate adhesive, and a hot pressing process of laminating the nonwoven fabrics 21a and 22a impregnated with the emulsion compounding liquid and the sheet 11a of the porous object impregnated with the isocyanate adhesive not containing the catalyst and hot pressing the laminate by hot press molds 41 and 42 at 120 to 180°C, thereby shaping the laminate.
