Facility and process to monitor patients uses different interfaces for several communication networks

The invention relates to a facility and a process to monitor patients from a central patient monitoring station (10). The connection can be achieved via several different interfaces (91, 92, 93) e.g. the Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN), Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), radio networks or cellular phone networks (GSM, UMTS), which increases the chance to establish a connection especially in the case of an emergency. The communication control device (9) determines through several predetermined criteria which interface (91, 92, 93) to use to establish a connection. Criteria are e.g. network availability, price of the data transmission and amount of data to send. To protect the confidential patient data the transmission is encrypted. The patient data contain video and audio data. An emergency call is engaged when one of the physical values exceeds a threshold.
