The lock has a latch (1) with larger swivel path, and a trip pawl (2) holding the latch in a locked position. A sliding lever driven by a motorized drive moves the latch in a main closing position to a snap-in engagement position by lifting the pawl to establish a snap-in engagement between the latch and the pawl using snap-in joints. The lever releases the latch when the latch is extensively displaced from the opening direction. One joint is placed on a control lever (23) that projects from the latch and the other joint is placed in the trip pawl. The sliding lever moves the latch in the direction of lifting of the pawl.
