PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which recording results are prevented from scattering. SOLUTION: A "scattering preventive print mode" or a "normal print mode" is selected by operating a scattering prevention set button provided in an ink jet recorder. When the "scattering preventive print mode" is set (S4: YES), print data created by a personal computer 200 is printed, at first, only with cyan ink, magenta ink and yellow ink (inks having an L<SP>*</SP>value exceeding 40) (S5-S7). Subsequently, a platen holding a recording medium is moved to print start position (S9) and the print data is printed again only with black ink (having an L<SP>*</SP>value not larger than 40) from above the recording medium printed with three colors (S10-S12).
