<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber by which productivity in manufacturing the optical fiber can be improved by increasing the proportion of an unusable part which cannot be made into the fiber to a usable part and improving a yield and productivity in a preform manufacturing process, and, furthermore, by realizing continuous and longer drawing while reducing the frequency of fitting a preform to a drawing machine in a drawing process. <P>SOLUTION: In a series of manufacturing processes of the optical fiber 53, a long starting rod 37 is formed in a starting rod manufacturing process by connecting dummy rods 35 to both ends of a core rod section 33 made of two or more core rods 31 and 32 mutually connected beforehand so that the core rods 31 and 32 are made into a predetermined length, and the long optical fiber preform 47 produced by depositing porous clad soot on the circumference of the long starting rod 37 is drawn. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
