PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently cool high temperature drainage produced when cooling combustion exhaust gas generated by combustion of waste by direct contact with water. SOLUTION: The method is for cooling high temperature drainage by carrying out counterflow contact with air in a cooling tower when cooling the high temperature drainage produced by a method carrying out cooling of combustion waste gas generated by a waste incinerator by direct contact with water. The drainage can be efficiently cooled, and stable operation throughout a long duration becomes possible without causing cooling performance deterioration caused by soil of a heat transfer surface due to a hardness component normally included in the drainage which has been a problem in a conventional indirect cooling method using a heat exchanger and cooling water.
