A groove(2) is milled into a flat board(1) which acts as molding tool. Groove depth corresponds to the breadth of the side faces of the letters or numbers being formed. A plastic is cast into the groove base until the groove is filled and is allowed to harden. The board is then milled out along the side faces of the cast object allowing it to be removed and the tool is discarded. The molding tool is a flat wooden board. Plastic is introduced into the primary groove base by a cannula which fits into the groove(2). The cannula may guide a film onto one of the groove sidewalls during the casting stage to allow easier release of the cast object. Alternatively the groove base may be covered with a release agent which does not adhere to the cast plastic.
