The device has a processor, a tool shop, a feeder unit for the transport of tools (5) between a tool shop (2) and the working area. An opto- electronic mechanism (7) is connected to the device for evaluation. The opto- electronic mechanism and the evaluation unit control the tool serving the opto- electronic signals outside of the working area (10) generating a signal if tools are found. An independent claim is included for a method as a check of tools at a processing center.
