The invention relates to a process and a facility to increase the search speed when searching databases on optical media. The search takes place in two steps. The first step is a scan of the disk memory of the entire database. A second search step, parallel to the first, searches in intermediate search results of the first search step. This leads to a reduction of jumps on the disk storage systems especially on optical storage systems.
