A cathode ray tube (1) comprises an panel portion (2), a funnel portion (3) and a neck portion (4) with an electron gun (5) and a shadow mask. The shadow mask is made of a material with a high thermal expansion coefficient, and the panel portion has an outside radius of curvature (R) larger than 30000 mm. The thicknesses of the panel portion have the following ratios: <DF>0.85≤Ts/Td≤1 </DF> <DF>0.6≤Tl/Td≤0.72 </DF> <DF>0.67≤Tc/Td≤0.34 </DF> wherein Tc is a glass thickness at the centre of the front portion Ts is a glass thickness at the end of the short axis, at the end of the effective screen area Tl is a glass thickness at the end of the long axis, at the end of the effective screen area Td is a glass thickness at the end of the diagonal, at the end of the effective screen area. <IMAGE> |
