The steering wheel has a steering wheel skeleton (10) incorporating a horn contact switch with 2 electrical contact elements, provided by contact wires, brought into contact with one another by relative movement of 2 cooperating components in the direction of the longitudinal axis (A) of the steering wheel, for operation of the horn. Alternatively the contact wires are applied to a common component and brought into contact with one another by deformation of the component for operation of the horn. The steering wheel may incorporate a 'floating horn' airbag module (12).
