Capturing an exemplar image of detected activity due to introduction of a foreground object into a monitored scene

An output from a video camera is monitored. Input data is analysed to produce a model of a background image, and incoming data is compared against the background model to identify a level of activity created by the introduction of a foreground object, thereby creating a period of activity. An exemplar image is then captured from the period of activity.
