<p>An apparatus 2, and as associated process, for recycling tyres comprises a pair of opposed rotatable flanged-plate members 28, 30 between which a tyre 14 is disposed, a drive device/ram 20 for rotating at least one of the rotatable members 28, 30, a hydraulically or pneumatically operated pressing device connected to at least one of the members 28, 30 for urging the members together/compressing the tyre 14, and at least one cutting device 70 which is suitably located so as to cut the outer circumferential surface of tyre 14 when rotated. Cutting device 70 may be a milling cutter comprising 30 to 200 circumferentially separated teeth with a cutter diameter within the range of 100 to 450 mm (see Figs 4 and 5) and may furthermore be interchangeable with other cutting devices so as to provide a wide range of different cut particle sizes.
