Buffered optical fibers and methods of making same

Buffered optical fibers (10) and methods of fabricating them are presented. A representative buffered optical fiber (10) including an optical fiber (16) through which optical signals can be transmitted and an inner layer (14) comprising an ultra-violet (UV) curable acrylate material that surrounds the optical fiber (16) and protects the core of the optical fiber (16) from microbending forces.
