INACTIVATED MYCOPLASMA HYOPNEUMONIAE BACTERIN AND METHOD OF USE THEREOF

This invention provides a bacterin comprising a virulent Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae isolate, inactivated with binary ethyleneimine, in an amount effective to immunize a swine against infection by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and a suitable phy- siologically acceptable carrier. The invention also provides a method of producing this bacterin. The invention further provides a method of inactivating a virulent strain of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae by contacting the Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae with bi- nary ethyleneimine. Finally, the invention also provides a method of immunizing swine against infection by Mycoplasma hyop- neumoniae comprising administering to the swine a dose of the bacterin so as to immunize the swine.
