Inorganic scintillator e.g. for positron emission tomography has matrix containing cerium with doping agent having a specified tetravalent ionisation energy

The scintillator has a matrix material of a metal oxide with a light generating centre of cerium (Ce) designed to scintillate in response to radiation. The matrix also contains a doping agent with a tetravalent ionisation energy I [kJ.mol-1] of between 3,000 and 3,500. The scintillator itself is a monocrystal with a doping agent of hafnium.
