PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a ceramide synthesis promotor and to provide a skin care preparation for external use each containing one or more kinds of substances selected from extracts of Pterocarpus marsapium, Symplocos racemosa, Sterculia scaphigera Wall and Peucedanum japonicum.

SOLUTION: The ceramide synthesis promotor comprises one or more kinds of substances selected from extracts of Pterocarpus marsapium, Symplocos racemosa, Sterculia scaphigera Wall and Peucedanum japonicum and is excellent in ceramide synthesis-promoting effect and is safe and excellent also in improving effect on chapped skin and dried skin. The skin care preparation for external use is safe and excellent in improving effect on chapped skin and dried skin.
