PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder discrimination device for an internal combustion engine capable of rapidly and accurately discriminating a cylinder in starting based on the output of a cylinder pressure sensor without relying upon the characteristics of the cylinder pressure sensor. SOLUTION: The cylinder pressure (pressure inside the cylinder) P is sampled for each of the cylinders n (S12), the variation rate dP/dθ#n of the cylinder pressure in increments of 6°of crank angle is calculated (S14), and the calculated variation rate is compared with a standard value A.
