PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fixing device, where the temperature of a heating roll can be raised stably nearly uniformly, even when the fixing device is started up from any state of from among low-temperature, middle-temperature and high-temperature states, and which can carry out fixing with high reliability. SOLUTION: The fixing device for an image forming apparatus is provided with at least the heating roll, incorporating a plurality of heaters and a pressure roll rotating while press-contacting with the heating roll, and fixes a toner image formed on transfer paper, by making the transfer paper pass between the heating roll and the pressure roll. In the start up of raising the temperature of the heating roll, the temperature before heating is detected by a means for detecting the temperature of the heating roll, and the energizing rates of a plurality of heaters necessary for startup before the prescribed time are respectively calculated, based on heating roll startup starting temperature preset and necessary heating value data, to attain target temperature considering heat radiation on a driving side so as to energize and heat the heating roll by the necessary heating value, to attain the startup target temperature from the detected temperature.
