PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a joined part flat and prevent it from having welding defects, even when friction stir joining is conducted on a part with a space provided for fitting. SOLUTION: A projecting part and a recessed part, which are to be mutually fitted, are provided in two joint members 10, 20 respectively. Joining of the joint members is conducted by rotating a rotary tool 30 while pressing the tool to a cut line part, where the projecting part and the recessed part are fitted, to plastically fluidize the members 10, 20. The joint member 10 used in the joining has projecting parts 14, 15 to be joined, which become thicker toward their end face parts so that the outer face sides of the parts 14, 15 become wider toward the ends. These projecting parts are fitted to notched parts 24, 25 to be joined of the joint member 20, and the cut line part fitted together is subjected to friction stir joining using the rotary tool 30.
