A gas sensor comprising a detection element (120), an external tubular ceramic insulator (130) and a metal enclosure (161), has a glass coating applied to the exposed surface (131) of the ceramic insulator. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a sensor probe assembly with a push-on, cable-connecting cap, provided with a male contact; and (ii) the production of sensor probes which have a sprayed-on, sintered glass finish.
