The rough milling cutter is made from a hard metal with a chip breaker with a selected chipping profile (6) ground into the chipping grooves (5) defined by the circumferential cutting edges. The milling cutter has two to 6 cutting edges with a spiral pitch of 20 to 45 degrees. The ground profiles are formed by bores in the grooves.
