A method which comprises treating mesenchymal cells with platelet factor 4 in the presence of an osteogenesis inducer to thereby differentiate the cells into osteoblasts; a method which comprises treating mesenchymal cells with platelet factor 4 in the presence of an osteogenesis inducer to thereby differentiate the cells into osteoblasts and then further treating the osteoblasts with platelet factor 4 to thereby promote the differentiation and maturation thereof; and a preventive and remedy for a disease associated with a decrease in bone mass which comprises an osteogenesis inducer combined with platelet factor 4.
