<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using a belt photoreceptor, wherein the width of a developing nip N can be increased, the maximum image density is made high, the image quality is improved, the contact pressure of the belt photoreceptor and the developing roller is uniform in the longitudinal direction, uneven wear is reduced and durability is improved. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprising the developing roller of the contact developing system which develops the electrostatic latent image formed on the belt photoreceptor, by sticking a toner thereto has at least two or more backup rollers, which are arranged on an upstream side and downstream side in the belt photoreceptor conveyance direction of the developing roller and allow the belt photoreceptor to abut against the developing roller. The belt photoreceptor is so arranged as to curve on the inner side of the tangents of the backup rollers arranged at both ends of the developing roller.
