<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently utilize light emitted from a light source, and provide at least one zone having strong light intensity in combination of at least a light intensity zone illuminated with weak intensity. <P>SOLUTION: This signal or lighting system for an automobile is equipped with at least one light source L determining a main light emitting direction X-X, and at least one elongated light guide G1. One end of the light guide is illuminated by the light source, and light is dispersed in a horizontal direction relative to its longitudinal direction. The light guide source has a longitudinal axis Y1 near the light source, and the longitudinal axis is arranged in a lateral direction relative to the main light emitting direction. Therefore, a part of the flux from the light source provides a first signal function or illuminating function having a comparatively strong light intensity independently from the light guide.
