PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus and an image forming apparatus capable of improving image quality, using a simple configuration. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus converts a manuscript image read with a reading means into an image signal. The reading means comprises a first and a second reading sensors 9 and 11, disposed in a staggered form so that their longitudinal direction extends along and is separated from a main scanning direction, while a part of the longitudinal direction faces on a sub-scanning direction. One connection member 25 and the other connection member 27, projecting toward the facing reading sensors 9 and 11, are provided at a facing position of the first and the second reading sensors 9 and 11.
