PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mat which is excellent not only in antifoulancy but also in water-absorbing rate, and a method for washing mats, which prevents a loss of the antifoulancy and the water absorption rate. SOLUTION: A mat, which comprises a ground fabric made of hydrophobic synthetic fibers, pile thread which is formed in a face of the ground fabric and made of hydrophobic synthetic fibers and bucking material which is formed in the other face of the ground fabric and made of hydrophobic synthetic fibers, is loaded with hydrophilic antifoulant, and hydrophilic soil resistant finish is added to the rinsing water in washing.
