<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission type backlight unit, its driving method, and a manufacturing method of a lower panel. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight unit comprises a lower substrate; a first and a second electrodes formed on the substrate and arranged alternatively one by one in a shape of a plurality of parallel lines; emitters disposed at at least the first electrode among the first and second electrodes; an upper substrate disposed so as to mutually face the lower substrate with a prescribed interval; a third electrode formed on the bottom face of the upper substrate; and a phosphors layer formed on the surface of the third electrode. Such a backlight conducts stable field emission by dint of a triode type field emission structure, and the uniformity of brightness is improved and manufacturing process is simplified by forming the first and second electrodes on the same plane surface, Then, the life and brightness of the emitters are improved by arranging the emitters at all of the first and second electrodes, and by applying a cathode voltage and a gate voltage to the first and second electrodes alternately. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
