PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost of a dirt detector 1 for camera by reducing the memory capacity thereof. SOLUTION: Difference between a value of solar radiation detected by a solar radiation sensor 27 for vehicle air conditioner installed in the room 25 of a vehicle 3 and the value of solar radiation operated based on video information from a camera 7 is calculated. Furthermore, the difference values thus calculated are integrated and calculation and integration of the difference value are repeated (n-1) times. When the difference value calculated at n-th time exceeds a predetermined difference value, a decision is made that an optical component 7a of the camera 7 has dirt and that dirt is detected.
