<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pouch type lithium secondary battery in which occurrence of battery abnormality is prevented which may be incurred owing to corroded metal foils caused by electric short circuit between a metal foil of the pouch and an anode of the battery. <P>SOLUTION: In the pouch type lithium secondary battery which is provided with an electrode assembly including the anode, a separator, and a cathode, a recess to house the electrode assembly, and a pouch having fringes 23, 23' that are fusion-bonded onto the periphery of the recess to be formed into a state of flange, at least at a part of the fringe, the edge part of the fringe is covered by an insulating material 201.
