PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a block copolymer useful for producing a pigment paste and excellent in pigment dispersibility. SOLUTION: The block copolymer comprises a solvent-soluble block (A) and a pigment-adsorbing block (B) containing a carboxy group or an acid anhydride group as a functional group. The block copolymer, for example, comprises the solvent-soluble block (A) having a halogen atom on its terminal and the pigment-adsorbing block (B) obtained by block-polymerizing a polymerizable unsaturated monomer having the carboxy group or the block-protected carboxy group, and the mass ratio of the block (A) to the block (B) is (40-99.5):(60-0.5).
