The method involves making at least one opening (10) in the insulating casing (8) enclosing the outer conductor (6), inserting a contact element (12) through the aperture into an intermediate space between the insulation and the outer conductor and fixing the contact element to the coaxial cable (2) by engaging a latching arrangement for fixing the contacts element in its mounting position.
