PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy absorbing body capable of suppressing an increase in the compressive load in the initial stage of the compressive fracture, consistently absorbing the energy, and increasing the energy absorption. SOLUTION: The energy absorbing body 11 is formed of fiber reinforced resin. Reinforcing fibers of the fiber-reinforced resin are constituted of a laminate fiber group 14 having a compressive directional fiber layer 12 in which fiber bundles consisting of continuous fibers are arrayed to have the compressive directional elements of the energy absorbing body 11, and a 90°fiber layer 13 in which fiber bundles consisting of continuous fibers are arrayed in the direction orthogonal to the compressive direction. At least the array density of the compressive directional fiber bundles to constitute the compressive directional fiber layer 12 and the array density of the 90°fiber bundles to constitute the 90°fiber layer 13 is gradually increased from one side to the other side of the compressive direction.
