<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rate limitation system and a method thereof for providing improved performance exceeding that of a conventional technique. <P>SOLUTION: In a rate limitation method in a local area network/wide area network, data are received from the local area network, the received data are stored in a first buffer, the received data are transmitted from the first buffer to the wide area network, a pause frame is transmitted to the local area network when the first buffer reaches an upper limit threshold, and the local area network is stopped to transmit the data.
