PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply software update to a nonvolatile storage of a built-in device in a form of a self-contained reliable entity by a fail-safe method. SOLUTION: Application to various software update is conducted. An executable code and/or data can be included in update. After rebooting, an initial program loader confirms an update mode, and boots to a special update loader. The update loader processes an update package and applies the update. In each update of a kernel partition, system partition, and reservation section, an entire file or binary difference file can be used, and an error processing mechanism is provided to both.
