PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a degree of deaeration until ink reaches an inkjet head, and to enable use of ink which is easy to settle down. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer is provided with: a replaceable ink cartridge 4 to store ink; an ink passage 5 extending to the inkjet head 3 from the ink cartridge; an intermediate ink storing section 6 provided in the ink passage to store ink; an ink quantity detecting means 11 to detect an ink quantity in the intermediate ink storing section; an ink pressurizing and supplying means 7 to pressurize and supply ink to the intermediate ink storing section side from the ink cartridge; an opening and closing valve 10 to open and close an ink fluid path from the ink cartridge to the intermediate ink storing section; and a control means 12 to determine that ink in the ink cartridge is exhausted, unless the ink quantity detecting means detects fill-up of the intermediate ink storing section in a predetermined time after the opening and closing valve is opened.
