PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep image forming condition satisfactory, by preventing through a simple control, transfer power supplied to each of a plurality of transfer positions from affecting transfer operations in the other transfer positions and by stabilizing a transfer condition in each transfer position, without causing increase in the size of the device or decrease in the speed of the image formation. SOLUTION: A control circuit 204 starts the supply of power to all of primary transfer rollers 13a to 13d and a secondary transfer roller 14, with timing so as to coincide with the start of primary transfer by the primary transfer roller 13d, disposed the farthest upstream in the direction of the movement of the intermediate transfer belt 11. The control circuit 204 ends the supply of power to all of the primary transfer rollers 13a to 13d and the secondary transfer roller 14, with a timing so as to coincide with the end of secondary transfer by a secondary transfer roller. This prevents fluctuations in the supply of power to the primary transfer rollers 13a to 13d and the secondary transfer roller 14 between the start of the first, primary transfer and the end of the secondary transfer.
