PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a screw compressor by which a slide valve can be actuated quickly, and even though the pressure of discharge gas is increased due to decrease in gas demand in a discharge-gas-receiving part, the discharge gas to be allowed to escape from a discharge line to a suction line can be reduced in the amount. SOLUTION: The screw compressor includes a balance cylinder 6 for sliding the slide valve 5, the suction line 2 communicating with a suction port 1c, and the discharge line 3 communicating from a discharge port 1d through an oil separation-collection device 3a with a part supplied with the discharge gas. A bypass line 4 having a bypass valve 4a is provided between both the lines 2, 3. The balance cylinder 6 of the screw compressor is actuated by an air-cylinder positioner 8. In the case when the pressure of the discharged gas is suddenly increased over a specified threshold value, the bypass valve 4a is opened. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
