PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive for lift installation suitable for converting an existing drive and most appropriately adaptable to an existing building. SOLUTION: In a modular drive for lift installation and a method of converting the drive in the lift installation, main drive components such as a driving device, a braking device and a drive pulley are combined into a drive module 11, at which connecting parts 16 for fastening the drive 7 within a shaft 5 or in a machine space 8 or for adjusting a support means spacing are mounted if necessary.
