PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To promptly shift to a required transmission range even in a multistage transmission with 7 stages or 8 stages, when a transmission range (a gear stage) is shifted up/down by manually operating a shift lever. SOLUTION: A lever position "D" set as the highest D range which change speed by using all gear stages, and a lever position "L" set as a lowest L range are provided on both sides of a lever position "M" which can be manually shifted while intersecting a second lever passage 114. A different transmission range is initially set according to which lever position "D" or "M" is shifted to the lever position "M", so that two kinds of initial ranges when the transmission range is shifted up.down by operating the shift lever 72 in the second lever passage 114 are available, and the transmission range can be promptly shifted to the required transmission range.
