The production of a fire-resistant gypsum fiber board made from a gypsum fiber mixture with cellulose fibers made from used paper as a reinforcing component and a boric acid for raising the fire resistance comprises adding a solution of boric acid in water to paper shreds as fiber pre-product and drying the excess water before pulping. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the process comprising a boric acid spraying unit (5) or mixing unit arranged between a paper shreds charging unit (1) and a cyclone separator (2) to mix the paper shreds and boric acid solution.
