<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element which is not accompanied with contrast reversal extending over a wide observation direction range and a wide observation angle range and with which a high contrast display is obtainable. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element is equipped with a homogeneous alignment liquid crystal element 1, first and second polarizing plates 12, 13 disposed with the liquid crystal element 1 interposed in between, first and second discotic liquid crystal films 14, 15 respectively disposed between the liquid crystal element 1 and the first and second polarizing plates 12, 13, a first uniaxial phase plate 16 and a first biaxial phase plate 18 stacked with each other and disposed between the first polarizing plate 12 and the first discotic liquid crystal film 14 and a second uniaxial phase plate 17 and a second biaxial phase plate 19 stacked with each other and disposed between the second polarizing plate 13 and the second discotic liquid crystal film 15. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
