PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing device in which the displeasure of a viewer is eliminated by automatically varying a volume before and after a CM broadcast when a recorded program is reproduced. SOLUTION: When a determination means 3 detects a stereo signal during the recording operation of television signals on a magnetic tape, first control signals indicative of switching from a DSDV signal to the stereo signal are recorded continuously on the magnetic tape. When an input of a stereo detection signal is stopped, a second control signal is recorded at that time and the magnetic tape is rewound when image recording is ended. A third control signal is recorded upon elapsing a predetermined time after the first control signal is inputted. During the reproducing operation of the magnetic tape, an output of a voice signal is lowered by a predetermined level when the third control signal is inputted, the voice signal is sustained at the lowered level when the first control signal is inputted, the voice signal is raised to a predetermined level when the second control signal is inputted, and the voice signal is outputted with the original level upon elapsing a predetermined time.
