PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a kneading machine that is compact, is readily handleable and provides noodles having palatability of firmness when a material to be treated is noodles. SOLUTION: The kneading machine comprises a bottomed cylindrical kneading pot 1 for storing a material M to be kneaded, a pestle 7 for pressing the material M to be kneaded in the kneading pot 1, a lifting and lowering mechanism 20 that lifts and lowers the pestle 7 between a rise position and a fall position to press the material to be kneaded in the kneading pot 1 and a rotating mechanism 30 for partially rotating the pestle 7 while rising from the fall position to the rise position. The lifting and lowering mechanism 20 is equipped with a screw rod 10 passing through the center of the kneading pot 1, a nut 11 that is screwed to the screw rod 10 and connected to the pestle 7, a first motor 23 for rotating the screw rod 10 both in normal and reverse directions and a control part for converting the normal/reverse rotation of the first motor 23. The rotation mechanism 30 is equipped with a rotating cylinder 31 that is externally fitted to the outside of the screw rod 10 and is controlled so as to allow the rise and fall of the pestle 7 and to be rotated together with it, a second motor 33 for rotating the rotating cylinder 31 and a control part for switching the start and stop of the second motor 33.
