METHOD FOR PRODUCING MALE-STERILE BODY OF PLANT, AND PLANT BODY OBTAINED USING THE SAME, AND USE OF THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for producing the male-sterile body of a plant by inhibiting the transcription of a gene involved in forming flower organs.

SOLUTION: The technique for producing the male-sterile body of a plant comprises the following practice: A plant cell is transferred with a gene encoding a transcription factor promoting the expression of a gene involved in flower organ formation and a chimeric gene with a polynucleotide encoding a functional peptide transforming any transcription factor to a transcription-inhibitory factor to produce in the plant cell a chimeric protein as a hybrid of the transcription factor with the functional peptide. The male-sterile body thus produced is incapable of normal pollen formation as the chimeric protein dominantly inhibits the expression of the gene involved in flower organ formation.
