<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emission control device capable of adequately ensuring the effective area or distance where exhaust gas is brought into contact with a filter, and furthermore, the effective cross sectional area where exhaust gas is actually flowing relative to the total cross sectional area of a tube, shortening exhaust gas treating time, and increasing the treating amount of the exhaust gas. <P>SOLUTION: This invention relates to the exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, in which the exhaust gas from an exhaust pipe 41 is treated with a filter F provided in an exhaust gas treatment chamber 2, and then discharged from a tail pipe 42. It is connected between the exhaust pipe and the filter, and is provided with a deflecting device 10 configured so that the exhaust gas discharged from the exhaust pipe is directed toward the filter while being rotated in the peripheral direction of the exhaust gas treatment chamber, or the basic structure. Furthermore, it is connected between the filter and the tail pipe, and is provided with a throttle section having a throat T with a narrowed cross sectional area in a part of the flow passage to increase the flow velocity of the exhaust gas. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
