<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clearly distinguish between a portion carrying a catalyst and a portion not carrying a catalyst. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst for exhaust gas purification is provided with a carrier base material (22), a carrier layer (31) that covers a part of the carrier base material, and a catalyst component carried by a carrier layer, wherein the carrier layers are colored with a coloring agent differing in color with that of the carrier base material. Specifically, the catalyst for exhaust gas purification is provided with the carrier base material, the first carrier layer (31) that covers a first part of the carrier base material (22), a first catalyst component carried by the first carrier layer, a second carrier layer (32) that covers a second part of the carrier base material, which differs from the first part, and a second catalyst component carried by the second carrier layer, wherein the first carrier layer is colored with a first coloring agent and the second carrier layer is colored with a second coloring agent differing in color from the first coloring agent.
