PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage an external service by a scheduler. SOLUTION: The scheduler 205 accesses a workload database 220, which associates an execution agent 210 and a descriptor 240 with each job to be submitted for execution. The descriptor identifies a desired web service 255 and the address of the corresponding WSDL document 245. Whenever the job is submitted for execution, the scheduler sends its descriptor to the associated agent. The agent downloads the WSDL document of the corresponding web service. A request message 250 for the web service is then built and the desired content is embedded into the structure specified in the WSDL document.
