PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems in a reflection-type display device where a light-emitting/light receiving means for detecting the quantity of light reflected from a reflection-type display element of the reflection-type display device has been heretofore installed as an integral body, on the side opposite to the display surface of the reflection type display element and therefore its detection area is limited, and in addition, many light-emitting/light-receiving means are needed, in order to detect the entire surface and the thickness reduction and weight reduction of the display device are difficult. SOLUTION: The reflection type display device is equipped with the reflection-type display element, a position instructing implement which instructs the position on the reflection-type display element, a position detecting means which detects the position instructed by the position instructing implement, and the light-emitting/light-receiving means which is disposed within the position instructing implement, projects the light to the reflection-type display element and detects the quantity of the light reflected by the reflection-type display element.
